Government Affairs and Public Policy Manager, Google Cloud Nordics

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience in government relations and public policy, including analysis and campaigns, working on technology issues or the policy environments that surround them.
  • 7 years of experience working within government, think tanks, public interest groups, technology industry groups, or corporate public policy organizations.
  • Experience in policy and regulatory issues relating to Cloud products and services (e.g., IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS products) and technical infrastructure (data centers, cloud regions, energy, and subsea cables) in the Nordic region.
  • Ability to communicate in English and Finnish fluently to interact with policy stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working on public policy issues in the technology industry as a trusted advisor and partner to business and infrastructure teams in go-to-market, product development, legal and risk/compliance.
  • Ability to operate collaboratively in a changing environment, with a track record of leading and executing cross-functional projects towards shared wins across the organization.
  • Ability to communicate in Swedish fluently as this is a client facing role.
  • Strong track record in government relations and demonstrated political acumen that have led to successful outcomes in business and infrastructure support (e.g., shape positive policy and regulations).

About the job

As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You’ll combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you’ll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. You're passionate about the opportunity to shape the future of how we use and build technology for everyone.

In this role, you will serve in a pivotal role leading the charge in advocating for pro-innovation policies that accelerate digital infrastructures and digital transformation, focusing on critical areas such as energy and environmental policies, infrastructure policies responsible AI, digital trust, and secure cross-border data flows. Beyond policy debate, you will enable the physical expansion of Google’s technical infrastructure—including subsea cables and cloud regions—while unlocking commercial opportunities for our sales teams. You will act as the bridge between Google and the region, ensuring that our products and campaigns resonate with the legislative landscapes of Nordic countries.

Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Finland: €98000 - €100000 (EUR) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Identify policy issues that may affect Google, understand the impact on Google business and users, and participate in policy campaigns with clear goals to shape a policy or set of policies.
  • Monitor and research current and relevant emerging public policy issues, considering how Google should work with allied organizations and industries, and work with business-area leadership, Legal, Marketing, Trust and Safety, and Public Relations (PR) to develop and launch policy-friendly products.
  • Address policy and government relations problems, and develop and execute policy strategy in a way that benefits the users and business.
