Strategic Cloud Engineer, Appdev Practice

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience in a customer-facing software engineering or technical consulting role, designing and launching cloud solutions.
  • Experience deploying container platforms (e.g., GKE, Cloud Run) and designing, building, and maintaining automated CI/CD pipelines.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Active Google Cloud PCA/PCD certification.
  • Experience architecting, developing software for, or delivering large-scale cloud solutions in Google Cloud Platform or other public clouds.
  • Experience with API-led, event-driven architectures and messaging (Apigee, Kafka, Pub/Sub), with strong people management and communication skills with a proactive mindset.
  • Strong proficiency in Python or another general-purpose language, solid design patterns, and data structures, with experience in designing testable code using frameworks like pytest.
  • Demonstrable aptitude in ASO, including autonomous workflows, LangGraph/LangChain, MCP, or the Google Cloud ADK.
  • Ability to communicate in English fluently to effectively communicate in this customer-facing role.

As a Strategic Cloud Engineer within the JAPAC AppDev Practice, you will work directly with Google’s most strategic customers on critical application development, modernization, and production launch projects to help them transform their businesses. You will provide a balance of deep software engineering and high-impact technical consulting, collaborating with a variety of customer personas from executive to technical practitioner to drive adoption of modern solution patterns via Google’s Cloud Platform.

Travel approximately 30% of the time for client engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end, full-stack cloud architectures on Google Cloud Platform, making strategic technical trade-offs to optimize performance, scalability, security and system integration.
  • Build and automate production-grade reference code, scripts, and full-stack software components while configuring cloud-native CI/CD pipelines, container runtimes (such as GKE or Cloud Run), and application telemetry.
  • Lead customer discovery workshops and whiteboarding sessions to map user journeys, decomposing ambiguous requirements to drive both project delivery and scoping of complex technical delivery opportunities.
  • Earn trust as a technical advisor to customer practitioners and leadership, resolving complex engineering blockers through active collaboration with Google Product, Presales, and companion PSO teams.
  • Extract and package repeatable architectural patterns and reference code from customer engagements into reusable regional assets and methodologies to scale JAPAC-wide delivery.
