Supplier Development Engineer, Audio

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in the consumer electronics manufacturing industry.
  • 8 years of experience in launching high-volume projects, with experience in DFM, fixture design and speaker driver line qualification.
  • Experience in vendor management, audio drivers end-to-end quality management, statistical processes control, or metrology design.
  • Experience in developing custom audio drivers manufacturing processes or test methodologies.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in influencing audio design through data-driven Design for Excellence (DFx) proposals, including FR, THD, HOHD.
  • Expertise in mechanical bonding like spot welding and adhesives.
  • Expertise in improving yields and cycle times for high-volume, and high audio performance drivers.
  • Technical knowledge of speaker driver sub-component quality control: magnet, voice coil, membrane, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including PD, Tech Eng, PM, Reliability, and Product Operations to deliver products to market.
  • Provide detailed and critical DfM reviews of audio drivers and make recommendations to Tech ENG/REL to improve manufacturing processes for quality, yield, and cost as a subject matter expert.
  • Use statistical process control and yield studies to validate process capability (Cp/Cpk), establish reasonable specifications with both Google internal and external partners, and develop manufacturing/testing processes from scratch.
  • Work with Reliability Engineering to set up ongoing reliability test plans for manufacturing processes that are critical to function and fix the issue.
  • Act as the first-level go-to person for identifying suitable manufacturing processes. Identify and highlight manufacturability issues during engineering builds to ensure product quality is stable and that supply is predictable during ramp.
