About the job

Our thirst for technology is a part of everything we do. The Data Center Engineering team takes the physical design of our data centers into the future. Our lab mirrors a research and development department -- cutting-edge strategies are born, tested and tested again. Along with a team of great minds, you take on complex topics like how we use power or how to run state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly facilities. You're a visionary who optimizes for efficiencies and never stops seeking improvements -- even small changes that can make a huge impact. You generate ideas, communicate recommendations to senior-level executives and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians.

With your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical).

Our multidisciplinary engineering team provides engineering support in the design, construction, and operation of Google's data centers.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer based in Australia, you will drive the engineering outcomes for mission-critical complex third-party development, leased and colocation data center sites across the APAC region. You will serve as the primary technical authority representing the company’s design, engineering, and operational standards during technical due diligence, design document reviews, and construction submittal reviews and commissioning ensuring that complex power infrastructure is built safely and correctly. You will be evaluating new facility opportunities, supporting major infrastructure expansion and retrofit projects, optimizing colocation deployments, and ensuring our critical infrastructure is delivered safely, reliably, and efficiently. Leveraging your deep technical expertise, you will collaborate with cross-functional partner teams, lead technical assessments, and mentor other engineers.

The AI and Infrastructure team is redefining what’s possible. We empower Google customers with breakthrough capabilities and insights by delivering AI and Infrastructure at unparalleled scale, efficiency, reliability and velocity. Our customers include Googlers, Google Cloud customers, and billions of Google users worldwide.

We're the driving team behind Google's groundbreaking innovations, empowering the development of our cutting-edge AI models, delivering unparalleled computing power to global services, and providing the essential platforms that enable developers to build the future. From software to hardware our teams are shaping the future of world-leading hyperscale computing, with key teams working on the development of our TPUs, Vertex AI for Google Cloud, Google Global Networking, Data Center operations, systems research, and much more.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical due diligence assessments for potential new leased and colocation data center facilities across APAC, focusing on the entire electrical system including utility, HV, MV and LV to the racks.
  • Conduct comprehensive design document reviews (basis of design, detailed electrical drawings, and single-line diagrams) submitted by external A/E or colocation partners.
  • Lead the field-side RFI process, identifying potential spatial or electrical conflicts and providing immediate engineering solutions to avoid rework.
  • Serve as the APAC electrical engineering authority for design, engineering and field issues in leased and colocation data center projects.
  • Review and approve equipment submittals, electrical studies (e.g., short-circuit, arc-flash, protection coordination, power modeling), and transient stability analyses.
