Staff Software Engineer, Cloud AI

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with one or more general purpose programming languages including but not limited to: Java, C/C++ or Python.
  • Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), Generative AI, Agentic AI frameworks and RAG systems.
  • Experience in software development, and designing, implementing distributed systems or cloud-native infrastructure.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in testing or launching products, with 3 years of experience in software architecture.
  • Ability to take ambiguous product requirements and translate them into scalable technical architectures.

The mission of the Apigee India team is to build, secure, and generate business the global gateway infrastructure that transforms standard enterprise APIs into discoverable, high-value, and agent-ready digital assets. As Google Cloud's premier API management suite, we empower enterprises to govern and monetize their digital ecosystem across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.The Google Cloud AI Research team addresses AI challenges motivated by Google Cloud’s mission of bringing AI to tech, healthcare, finance, retail and many other industries. We work on a range of unique problems focused on research topics that maximize scientific and real-world impact, aiming to push the state-of-the-art in AI and share findings with the broader research community. We also collaborate with product teams to bring innovations to real-world impact that benefits our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and coding of core features that transform the Hub into a definitive repository for APIs, Model Context Protocol (MCP) Servers, and Agents.
  • Build highly scalable, distributed systems that automate asset discovery through deep integrations with various API Gateways and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Agent Cloud.
  • Develop the interfaces and schemas required to make organizational assets available and "understandable" for consumption by AI Agents.
  • Drive high engineering standards across the team through rigorous design reviews, code reviews, and the implementation of best practices in cloud-native development.
  • Act as a technical lead and mentor for junior and mid-level engineers, helping to solve complex technical bottlenecks and improve system reliability.
