About the job

Our thirst for technology is a part of everything we do. The Data Center Engineering team takes the physical design of our data centers into the future. Our lab mirrors a research and development department -- cutting-edge strategies are born, tested and tested again. Along with a team of great minds, you take on complex topics like how we use power or how to run state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly facilities. You're a visionary who optimizes for efficiencies and never stops seeking improvements -- even small changes that can make a huge impact. You generate ideas, communicate recommendations to senior-level executives and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians.

With your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical).

Our multidisciplinary engineering team provides engineering support in the design, construction, and operation of Google's data centers. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer based in India, you will drive the engineering outcomes for mission-critical complex third-party development, leased and colocation data center sites across the APAC region. You will serve as the primary technical authority representing the company’s design, engineering, and operational standards during technical due diligence, design document reviews, and construction submittal reviews and commissioning ensuring that complex power infrastructure is built safely and correctly.

This role is critical for evaluating new facility opportunities, supporting major infrastructure expansion and retrofit projects, optimizing colocation deployments, and ensuring our critical infrastructure is delivered safely, reliably, and efficiently. Leveraging your deep technical expertise, you will collaborate with cross-functional partner teams, lead technical assessments, and mentor other engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical due diligence assessments for potential new leased and colocation data center facilities across APAC, focusing on the entire mechanical system including chilled water plant, data hall air-side and liquid-side cooling systems, fuel oil systems, fire alarm and fire protection systems.
  • Conduct comprehensive design document reviews (Basis of Design, detailed mechanical drawings, and P&ID) submitted by external A/E or colocation partners. Review and approve equipment submittals, design development and mechanical studies (e.g., CFD, hydraulic analysis).
  • Lead the field-side RFI process, identifying potential spatial or mechanical conflicts and providing immediate engineering solutions to avoid rework. Own and manage the program and project level mechanical system issues regarding the system design, identify and resolve the issues with cross functional teams and stakeholders.
