Data Center Operations Site Lead

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12 years of experience in data center operations, critical environment infrastructure management, or managing mechanical/electrical power systems.
  • 7 years of experience in leading technical facilities teams within critical operations environments.
  • 5 years of experience in managing campus operational budgets, expense forecasting, vendor agreements, or cross-functional engineering projects.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience leading large-scale technical infrastructure operations within high-availability or mission-critical data center environments.
  • Experience in collaborating with other business units to meet company goals and standards.
  • Deep technical knowledge of large-scale mechanical cooling systems, electrical power distribution systems, and facility control infrastructure.
  • Ability to develop and grow team members through coaching, mentoring, and training.

About the job

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facility Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Some duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components). You'll provide daily assistance to senior technicians as you read blueprints/schematics, conduct tours of systems and assess their working order.

You will develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.

As a Data Center Operations Site Lead, you will oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of our critical environment infrastructure in Vernon, Texas. You will lead a team of facilities engineers and technicians to ensure maximum uptime, compliance, and operational efficiency. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional partners to scale infrastructure, manage budgets, and develop local talent to support Google's growing infrastructure needs.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $205000 - $286000 (USD) + 25% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of critical facilities engineers and operations technicians, promoting a culture of safety and professional growth.
  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and emergency response protocols for mechanical and electrical systems within high-availability data centers.
  • Plan and execute campus operational budgets, expense forecasting, and key vendor relationships while developing creative approaches to reducing operational costs and improving overall data center efficiency.
  • Lead efforts to integrate Google-wide strategy and execution with internal and external business partners, creating strategy for cost-effective operations focused on total cost of ownership.
