Senior Software Engineer, Ask Maps, Geo

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
  • 3 years of experience with full stack development, across back-end such as Java, Python, Golang, or C++ codebases, and front-end experience including Kotlin, JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML or equivalent.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products.
  • 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role, with experience working in a collaborative environment with cross-functional teams across different time zones.
  • Experience with full-stack (client, server and database) development, and familiarity with server-side API design and integration.
  • Interest and experience in using AI tools for development workflows.
  • Passion for user-facing features and a strong sense of product excellence.

The Geo team is focused on building the most accurate, comprehensive, and useful maps for our users, through products like Maps, Earth, Street View, Google Maps Platform, and more. Every month, more than a billion people rely on Maps services to explore the world and navigate their daily lives.

The Geo team also enables developers to use the power of Google Maps platforms to enhance their apps and websites. As they plot a course for the future of mapping, they are solving complex computer science problems, designing beautiful and intuitive product experiences, and improving our understanding of the real world.

Responsibilities

  • Write and test product or system development code.
  • Partner closely with the first, second or third-party clients to scale mobility tools universally through streamlined, robust integrations.
  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with partners to define requirements and co-create cutting-edge capabilities that power expanding Maps experiences across GenAI surfaces.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Establish quality benchmarks and advocate platform-wide enhancements to maximize performance and impact across all AI surfaces.
