Senior Software Engineer, BigLake Federation

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in software development with one or more general-purpose programming languages (e.g., C++, Java, Go, or Python).
  • Experience in system design, distributed systems, or large-scale data processing.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud, Cloud Computing Platform), multi-cloud environments, or big data technologies.
  • Experience working with open-source data ecosystems (e.g., Apache Iceberg, Apache Spark) or enterprise data platforms (e.g., Workday, Salesforce).
  • Demonstrated technical leadership: driving ambiguous technical initiatives from design to production and mentoring other engineers.
  • Cross-functional communication and collaboration skills.

BigQuery and BigLake are at the heart of how enterprises analyze petabytes of data. In this role, you will join a fast-growing, high-impact engineering team in Warsaw responsible for cross-cloud data and metadata federation as customers are eager to run BigQuery analytics on their datasets wherever they reside across Google Cloud, hyperscalers like cloud computing platform, and enterprise platforms like Workday and Salesforce. Your mission is to make this seamless, reliable, and cost-effective by building and owning the foundational distributed systems, data federation infrastructure, and core performance building blocks that make borderless analytics possible.

As a senior technical leader on this team, you will shape the product roadmap, collaborate closely with senior engineering and product management leaders across global sites, guide technical design and operational excellence, and mentor a growing team in an open culture.Google Cloud accelerates every organization’s ability to digitally transform its business and industry. Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain high-performance, scalable distributed services and foundational building blocks that enable customers to query and federate data across multiple clouds and enterprise platforms at competitive costs.
  • Own end-to-end technical execution of complex initiatives, from architectural design and prototype validation through cross-functional reviews and global production rollout.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members, driving engineering best practices, thorough design reviews, and high operational excellence.
  • Communicate architectural goal, project status, and technical trade-offs with clarity to engineering peers, Product Management, Site Reliability Engineering, and external partners.
  • Influence the technical roadmap for BigLake Federation in collaboration with global engineering leads, anticipating customer needs and translating them into durable, scalable solutions.
