Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience negotiating research and product partnerships in a research and development (R&D) setting within academic, corporate, or creative technology environments, in the fields of media, gaming, or entertainment.
  • Experience supporting or commercializing technologies that bridge the gap between AI research and creative product pipelines.
  • Experience working with datasets or machine learning.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working autonomously in a dynamic, ever-changing, and collaborative environment.
  • Experience managing complex, end-to-end partnerships.
  • A deep understanding of modern 3D pipelines, visual effects workflows, and emerging creative technologies. Comfortable navigating technical discussions with engineers and creative directors alike.
  • Strong investigative and reasoning skills to structure agreements and manage technical, contractual and financial issues.
  • Strong cross-functional communication and relationship-building skills across all management levels, including executives. Confident collaborating with both researchers and engineers.

About the job

As a Business Development manager, you’ll be part of the team that enables DeepMind's mission by identifying, supporting, shaping, negotiating and managing strategic opportunities to partner externally. We work in direct collaboration with our world-leading AI researchers, engineers and GDM’s leadership to develop an understanding of GDM’s research and business strategy and connect these to business needs.

In this role, you will be driving research, product and data partnerships, acting as the primary thought partner for both internal teams and external organizations, shaping research and product partnerships or licensing opportunities from initial concept through discussion to final execution. You’ll be collaborating with researchers, engineers, technical program managers, product managers and GDM’s Foundation teams. You will work with our Research and Product teams towards shaping partnerships that bring the AI models and experiences onto the desktops of creatives to transform entertainment.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $141,000 - $204,000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of DeepMind’s research, product and business strategy for Media, Entertainment, Gaming and Multimodal areas and connect them to business needs.
  • Lead the end-to-end agreement process with partners, including structuring and negotiating complex, first-of-their-kind agreements for joint research, technology/data licensing, and other collaborations with creatives, artists, media partners etc. coordinating with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Work with DeepMind’s teams to proactively spot new opportunities, monitor emerging trends and inform our partnerships agenda.
  • Serve as the single point of contact and relationship owner for key external partners, driving long-term partner success and maximizing the impact of each collaboration.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Google to pursue impactful partnership opportunities.
