Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience troubleshooting technical issues for internal/external partners or customers.
  • 5 years of experience in system design or one programming language (e.g., Java, C++, Python, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate in Japanese and English fluently to interact with internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD.
  • 10 years of experience troubleshooting technical issues for partners or customers. 10 years of experience in system design or one programming language.
  • Experience as a technical consultant in the Automotive field.
  • Experience with Maps products and services
  • Experience working with enterprise stakeholders and collaborating effectively across time zones. Ability to deliver results in a complex environment and drive alignment across cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate in Chinese fluently to interact with internal and external stakeholders.

About the job

The Geo Auto Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) team collaborates with global partners to integrate Google Maps and develop cutting-edge navigation solutions for vehicles. Our primary objective is to maximize reach, making Maps available in as many vehicles as possible. We align Google's strategic goals with our partners to ensure the seamless integration of Geo Automotive products across edge and cloud platforms.

As a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) Engineer, you will gain exclusive insights into the global automotive industry, guiding products from ideation to production. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams specializing in navigation, automotive sensors, embedded compute, and advanced software architectures.

In this role, you will gain experience in understanding the automotive industry's navigation requirements and the utilization of map data for automated and assisted driving. Furthermore, you will evaluate map data and geo service quality from a partner's perspective, define and develop robust external-facing SDKs, and create tools to visualize service quality. Ultimately, this role offers the unique opportunity to collaborate extensively across internal teams and external partners, seeing both the engineering and business sides of bringing innovative automotive products to the road.

Responsibilities

  • Lead automotive partners as they integrate Google Maps and Automotive SDK across complex domains including Automotive OS platforms, ADAS components, and in-vehicle infotainment.
  • Manage the automotive partner relationship and be responsible for driving issue resolutions including bugs, missing functionality, and feature requests.
  • Internally represent the requirements, constraints and roadmap of automotive partners to inform product development.
  • Support the Geo Auto Forward Deployed Engineering team as a subject matter expert.
  • Work closely with teams across the Geo Auto, Geo Developer, and Android organizations to ensure Google provides a uniform and complete automotive solution.
