Senior Engineering Manager, Virtual Machine Runtime and Management

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience programming in C++.
  • 7 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
  • 5 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.
  • 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • 4 years of experience managing engineering organizations across multi-team infrastructure dependencies.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • 4 years of experience architecting bare-metal hypervisor orchestration or "Compute-as-a-Service" platforms specifically designed for disconnected, edge, or air-gapped environments utilizing local image registries.
  • 4 years of experience building, extending, or modifying core container orchestration platform internals, including custom Kubernetes controllers, custom resource definitions, and automated operator patterns.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

The Virtual Machine Runtime and Management team builds the core virtualization platform for the Distributed and Sovereign Cloud (DSC) ecosystem. This infrastructure layer powers the entire DSC product line including air-gapped, connected, software-only, and Gemini-integrated environments enabling customer workloads and layered services to run seamlessly across distributed, scalable cloud infrastructure.

In this role, you will lead the development of the foundational virtualization platform for our product line. You will be responsible for building and scaling a team delivering high quality, reliable, highly available, and highly performant infrastructure on which the full set of DSC services and customer workloads can rely.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $262000 - $365000 (USD) + 25% bonus target + bonus + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Manage and mentor a team of engineers and engineering managers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Define the technical roadmap and strategy for the virtualization layer of the DSC product line. Oversee the end-to-end development lifecycle, from concept and design to deployment and maintenance.
  • Guide the team in integrating AI into their daily routines to maximize productivity.
  • Work closely with DSC operators, Site Reliability Engineers, and other engineering teams to identify needs and deliver impactful solutions.
  • Ensure the tools and applications are robust, scalable, and performant, meeting the high demands of a global infrastructure.
