About the job

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.

As a Software Engineer for Consumer Payments in Singapore, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and launching innovative backend features across our payment systems. You will architect and deliver critical infrastructure that powers new e-Wallet integrations and scales Account-to-Account (A2A) payment features. You will be involved in building new capabilities, collaborating closely with local and global cross-functional teams (including Product Managers (PM), UX, Business Development (BD), and other Engineering teams globally), and driving features from conception to launch. You will be contributing to the backend codebase (Java/C++), improving distributed systems, and advocating the use of AI-assisted development tools to enhance our workflows and engineering velocity.

Whether it is paying online with Autofill, using tap and pay in stores, or using the Google Pay app, the Payments team at Google is focused on making payments simple, seamless, and secure. In addition to consumer payment technologies, the Payments team also powers the money movement between Google and its consumers and businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable backend software for consumer payments, focusing on robust Application Programming Interface (API) integrations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, UX designers, business development, and other engineers globally to define, plan, and implement scalable payment capabilities tailored to the APAC region.
  • Write high-quality, well-tested code in Java or C++, ensuring systems handle high transaction throughput with strict low-latency, high-availability, and compliance requirements.
  • Own the full-stack or end-to-end technical delivery of feature enhancements that drive growth in the number of transactions on e-Wallets and scalable A2A payment systems.
  • Explore and leverage AI-first development tools (e.g., generative coding, testing, and verification tools) to actively streamline and enhance software development lifecycles and team velocity.
