Software Engineer III, Infrastructure, Keystore Platforms

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development using C++.
  • 2 years of experience with designing, building and maintaining large-scale backend infrastructure or distributed systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • Experience in cryptography, security, or building cryptographic access controls.
  • Experience engineering high-throughput production systems with a focus on fault tolerance, concurrency, and high-availability.
  • Experience developing features within enterprise-level monolithic codebases, migrating legacy systems, or contributing to major open-source projects.

The Keystore Platforms team is responsible for the security and reliability of Keystore’s server platforms, which serve as a critical pillar of user data protection. As owners of the core server infrastructure, we safeguard the cryptographic keys backing Google’s largest services, including Spanner, Bigtable, and Colossus.

We operate in a high-stakes, high-security domain at massive scale. You will manage complex challenges at the intersection of security and distributed systems, working to harden our server platforms, minimize key exposure in memory, and build next-generation cryptographic access controls.

You’ll have a high-impact engineering role focused on improving production resilience, operational efficiency, and developer velocity. Partnering closely with SRE, you'll drive engineering excellence and help build a secure cryptographic foundation for all of Google.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $147000 - $210000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Write product or system development code.
  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and its' impact.
