Scalable Cryogenics Engineer, Quantum AI

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience with design validation including thermal modeling and requirements analysis.
  • 3 years of experience working on cryogenic system projects.
  • 3 years of experience with ultra-low temperature cryogenic systems (less than 1K).


Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP).
  • Experience with cryogenic temperature thermal modeling and analysis.
  • Experience designing, building, and debugging cryogenic systems.
  • Ability to program (C++ and Python) and strong familiarity with Matlab or similar signal data analysis tools.

About the job

As a part of the Scalable Cryogenics team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and commissioning cryogenic systems of ever-increasing complexity in support of the QAI team roadmap to commercially useful fault tolerant quantum computers. As a Cryogenics Engineer on the Scalable Hardware team, you will be involved in supporting and developing our next-generation cryogenic technologies, and will have a stake in their performance. You will work closely with multiple key vendors, partners, and collaborators for development and production, ensuring timeliness, performance and cost effectiveness.The full potential of quantum computing will be unlocked with a large-scale computer capable of complex, error-corrected computations. Google Quantum AI's mission is to build this computer and unlock solutions to classically intractable problems. Our roadmap is focused on advancing the capabilities of quantum computing and enabling meaningful applications.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $132000 - $189000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the vendors on the design, test, and development of new cryogenic systems.
  • Troubleshoot cryogenic issues.
  • Validate design, including thermal modeling and requirements analysis.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to define and implement Research and Development (R&D) projects.
