Staff UX Designer, Gmail AI

  • Experience pushing past legacy product boundaries.

As a Staff UX Designer, you will shape Gmail’s new AI Inbox surface, collaborating closely with teams across Gmail. To succeed in this highly ambiguous space, you should be comfortable prototyping and exploring how our models output content, translating complex AI behaviors into elegant, intuitive, and cohesive user journeys.

AI will change the future of work in profound ways, and our products— Gmail, Docs, Drive, Calendar, Sheets, Vids and Meet are at the forefront. From pre-computed summaries for email threads, summaries for meetings, and videos created from a document using lifelike AI avatars, our AI opportunity is huge. Our mission is to meaningfully connect people so they can create, build, and grow together and as part of the team you can build how productivity tools should work 5-10 years into the future. You will work with model builders (Google DeepMind), work with exceptional leaders, and have the ability to impact billions of users across the world.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $188000 - $274000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Closely partner with fellow Gmail UXDs and Gmail’s cross-functional partners, shaping and bringing strong, opinionated, and principled user and UX craft POV to your prototypes and design work.
  • Inspire your peers with your prototypes, design craft, and end-to-end thinking - to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas and clearly explain the rationale for design decisions to cross-functional peers.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of user insights and emerging trends in productivity, communication, and AI to continue to evolve the product offering and user experience at high velocity and in fast changing technical and user adoption landscape.
  • Deliver over a high bar for design craft and deliver outcomes for the product portfolio by shipping Machine Learning Platforms (MLPs) for Dogfood (DF) and Google Analytics (GA).
