Google Play Business Controller

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA).
  • 10 years of experience in accounting or a related function, or 8 years with an advanced degree in accounting, business, or finance.
  • Experience in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), with a focus on Revenue (ASC 606) Accounting in a public accounting or multinational company setting.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • Experience with SQL and excellent analytical skills and ability to communicate effectively with executive management.
  • Ability to have strong attention to detail, organizational skills and focus on continuous improvement.
  • Ability to have a collaborative style and work with cross-functional and international teams.
  • Ability to own projects and lead others (direct or indirect) to meet deadlines while maintaining quality of the work.

About the job

We're a Business Controllership team dedicated to supporting the Platforms and Ecosystems team. Platforms and Ecosystems is positioned and plays a critical role within the Google Ecosystem. Platforms and Ecosystems is constantly evolving and innovating, and our team has tremendous opportunities to support and operationalize new and unprecedented business initiatives and strategies. We're tasked to satisfy Business's needs while complying with broader corporate policies and processes, and therefore, we must partner closely with both the business teams (BD, Product, Product Legal, Finance) and central/corporate teams (Corp Accounting, TA, RCO, Tax) at all times.

As a Play Business Controller, you will join the controllership team, and become a pivotal driver in supporting Games and Apps Business and responsible for managing financial risks across accounting, compliance, product launches, finance operations, and business systems. You will partner closely with the Finance, business, product and Engineering teams to drive business impact and support. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate closely with cross-functional and cross-product teams. In this role, you will be required to be a well-rounded leader with strong financial expertise and the ability to influence across Google.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $157000 - $227000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and execute month, quarter, and year-end close processes, journal entries, financial reporting, earnings, and external audit collaborations for the Play product area.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance on business models, systems design, and contractual agreements (pre and post-sales) to ensure optimal agreement structures and operational workflows.
  • Establish, assess, and maintain effective risk management and internal control frameworks to ensure compliance and mitigate business risks.
  • Partner with Financial Planning and Analysis, Product, and Engineering to design, implement, and support scalable accounting systems, procedures, and ad-hoc requests.
  • Lead Controllership initiatives, UATs, and automation programs to centralize, streamline, scale, and manage extended workforce accounting operations globally.
