Technical Writing Manager, Google Cloud AI

In accordance with Washington state law, we are highlighting our comprehensive benefits package, which is available to all eligible US based employees. Benefits for this role include:

  • Baby Bonding Leave: 18 weeks

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience creating content for technical audiences (e.g., developer documentation, Computer Science course material, or IT administration playbooks).
  • 4 years of experience in people management in enterprise development environments.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience developing, evaluating, or refining AI prompts and knowledge engineering workflows to ensure high-quality, reliable, and safe content generation.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating Generative AI, LLMs, or other AI tools into technical writing workflows for content creation, editing, and maintenance.
  • A people-first leader adept at mentoring technical writers, connecting team strategy to broader organizational goals, and multiplying team output through effective cross-functional collaboration.
  • Passion for driving innovation at the intersection of AI and technical communication, with a forward-looking perspective on how AI is transforming the knowledge life-cycle.

Technical writers plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the engineering or user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their abilities to explain complex topics in a way that’s useful to their audience.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $164000 - $237000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Lead, grow, and mentor a high-performing team of technical writers, fostering a culture of innovation, technical writing excellence, and continuous career growth.
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders (Product Management, Technical Program Management, and Engineering) to define and execute high quality documentation assets for human and agentic users.
  • Partner with stakeholders to develop and evaluate AI workflows for knowledge content generation, ensuring reliability and quality.
  • Navigate complex, effective organizational projects, prioritizing execution pathways to deliver value while adapting to evolving ecosystem needs. Ensure appropriate metrics, roles, and people are in place to drive high performance and product excellence.
