Head of Strategy and Operations, GBO, GTM

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in management consulting, sales operations, business strategy, investment banking, venture capital, private equity, or corporate advisory experience, or 8 years of experience with an advanced degree.
  • 5 years of experience working with executive stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications:

  • MBA or Master's degree in a Technical, Quantitative, or a Business related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12 years of experience in management consulting, investment banking/private equity/venture capital, corporate strategy, sales operations, or equivalent experience in a technology/media company.
  • 5 years of experience in people management, including experience leading teams.
  • Experience in a chief of staff or strategy and operations role, or a similar role requiring leadership of varied and operational initiatives while working closely with executive leaders.
  • Proven track record of managing high-volume, high-stakes deliverables in a changing environment with exceptional judgment and attention to detail.

About the job

As the head of the chief of staff team, you will increase the effectiveness and efficiency of Global Business Organization (GBO) and Go-To-Market operations, and ensure the organization thoughtfully sets, tracks, and accomplishes its annual goals. You will drive operational excellence to land the executive agenda. Additionally, there will be opportunities to engage in projects, including the driving board of directors preparation for the GBO. You will partner closely with teams across Go-To-Market, GBO, and cross-functionally with a varied set of stakeholders including finance, People Operations, communications, marketing, advertising products, and others. In this role, you will directly manage a team responsible for GBO business operations, as well as provide chief of staff support for the vice president of Go-To-Market and the managing director of Global Business Strategy and Operations.


You will demonstrate the ability to lead through ambiguity, display the confidence and judgment to thoughtfully address issues, partner with executive leaders, and build cross-functional relationships at multiple levels of the organization. You will demonstrate a balance between thinking, operational efficiency, and pragmatism in accomplishing goals.

This is a unique opportunity to work directly with and learn from Google’s executive leaders, shaping the executive agenda for the GBO across both near- and long-term horizons. You will have visibility, access, and influence among our executive leaders, with a front-row seat to how decisions are made at leadership levels of the organization.

The Go-to-Market Operations (GtM) team ensures Google's complex and ever-evolving Ads business runs smoothly. We are instrumental in setting go-to-market strategy, and ensuring flawless execution and operations against the strategy. We have teams embedded in each of the major Ads business areas as well as global teams that work across the business areas. Team members are analytical and strategic, with a pragmatic sense of how to get things done.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $234000 - $326000 (USD) + 25% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Lead as a player/coach to build, mentor, and sustain a high-performing team.
  • Act as a high-velocity engine for leadership, unblocking bottlenecks and transitioning complex concepts into immediate execution.
  • Partner with Ads, Finance, People Ops, Marketing, and Communications to scope and execute the executive agenda for GBO/GTM leadership.
  • Enable leadership to track GBO and GTM OKRs and priorities throughout the year while managing quarterly reporting.
  • Build consensus among executive audiences to influence decision-making, while exercising exceptional organizational judgment when managing high-impact escalations.
