Program Manager, Fleet Resource Management

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations Research, Operations Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in program management.
  • 5 years of experience in technical program management within data centers.
  • 5 years of experience with computer resource management tools.

Preferred qualifications:

  • MBA or technical degree.
  • 8 years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
  • Experience with scripting and business tool development using SQL or Python.
  • Excellent influencing skills, and delivering solutions in a highly complex, always changing, and nebulous environment.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, organizational, prioritization, and multitasking skills.

About the job

The Central Fleet T/PgM team is responsible for provisioning fleet compute and storage resources to Google’s resource managers while managing the cost, health and lifecycle of the underlying fleet of machines. Our team leverages Google’s resource abstraction systems to expose and execute on opportunities for inventory and fleet optimization. We partner with the fleet’s stakeholders, giving them a platform to influence fleet composition and design.

The Central Fleet’s mission is to synthesize all stakeholder’s needs and orchestrate changes to the fleet, driving the fleet’s evolution.

As a Program Manager for Central Fleet, you will be central to the advancement of Google’s mission to catalog the world’s information at a global scale. You will be responsible for leading cross-functional programs aimed at solving some of Google’s most challenging problems in cloud computing and pushing the leading edge of modern operations management.

You will work directly with Google’s physical supply chain, data center planning, and software engineering teams to design, deploy, and manage the systems that are used to optimize Google’s immense fleet of shared compute and storage resources. In this role, you will be acting as a combination: project/program manager, product designer, change management diplomat.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $188000 - $274000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team responsible for reshaping our deployed fleet to support more incoming critical demand, maximizes the health of our hardware, stabilizes our supply chain and more.
  • Support incoming cross-functional fleet objectives from scoping to execution at-scale in a global data center environment.
  • Partner with technical and business stakeholders to chart a path forward, blending conflicting business goals and technical realities into actual plans for our fleet, then drive these plans to successful completion.
  • Drive improvement across fleet management systems by developing scalable processes, working with the team to form scrappy solutions and ultimately formal software capabilities with our software partners.
  • Own a strategy that keeps pace with our evolving priorities while also driving increased maturity across our ecosystem.
