Senior UX Designer, Google Maps

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience with interaction design in product design or UX design.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience independently leading design projects or product areas.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams of designers, researchers, engineers, content strategists and product managers throughout the design process; creating user flows and wireframes to building user interface mockups and prototypes.
  • Experience designing for conversational AI experiences.
  • Experience or strong interest in designing for emerging markets and user needs.

As an Interaction Designer, you'll apply user-centered design methods to craft industry-leading user experiences from concept to execution, working with design partners to evolve the Google design language to build beautiful, innovative products.

The Google Maps Strategic Markets User Experience (UX) team’s core goal is to build accessible, and deeply localized experiences for the next wave of global Next Internet Users (NIUs). Our mission is to bridge the gap between complex technology and everyday human needs, ensuring Geo’s products are highly relevant, useful, and empowering for users in rapidly growing economies. Within this space, Transit Growth in Emerging Markets represents a massive opportunity to redefine how millions of people navigate rapidly urbanizing cities. Transit in these regions is fundamentally different often complex, multimodal, and heavily reliant on informal networks.

In this role, you will independently drive the strategy and execution for how transit commuters plan, navigate, and experience their irequent and infrequent trips. You will be solving unique local modalities, data gaps and the micro-needs that drive daily habits in growing transit engagement. You will work with Transit growth in Google Maps for users in Emerging Markets and across the globe.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to understand requirements, and provide creative, thoughtful solutions.
  • Communicate the user experience at various stages of the design process with wireframes, flow diagrams, storyboards, mockups, or high fidelity prototypes.
  • Integrate user feedback and business requirements into ongoing product experience updates.
  • Advocate for the prioritization of design centered changes, refinements, and improvements.
  • Lead and take ownership of key parts of the product's user experience for Transit Growth in Emerging Markets.
