About the job

This Maps team is in charge of building Google's foundational Semantic Location engine, which infers where people go and how they move about in the real world. Our model powers many impactful Google products, including Busyness, Transit Crowdedness, Maps Timeline, Commute Notifications, User Generated Content (UGC) for Maps, and Ads measurement.

The team is a machine-learning-heavy team whose mission is to improve the quality of the model and the products it powers through better signal acquisition, feature engineering, model architecture, data cleaning, and ground truth data. Our model runs on 100s of millions of Android and iOS devices and is built by large-scale, parallel training pipelines on Google servers.

As the Engineering Manager for the team, you will lead a team of software and machine learning engineers in their development of Google's foundational Semantic Location engine.

You will coach, mentor, and grow the engineers on the team, aligning their work with their individual career goals, helping them solve high-impact technical problems, and maintaining a high level of motivation and job satisfaction.

You will own the team's multi-quarter strategy, develop our roadmap, and oversee its execution. You will work with the team's tech lead to advance our ML models and infrastructure while balancing short-term impact, long-term technical bets, and system stability.

You will also collaborate with our key clients across Maps, Ads, Android, and other product areas to align on joint priorities, identify opportunities for impact, and unlock new use cases for Semantic Location across Google.

The Geo team is focused on building the most accurate, comprehensive, and useful maps for our users, through products like Maps, Earth, Street View, Google Maps Platform, and more. Every month, more than a billion people rely on Maps services to explore the world and navigate their daily lives.

The Geo team also enables developers to use the power of Google Maps platforms to enhance their apps and websites. As they plot a course for the future of mapping, they are solving complex computer science problems, designing beautiful and intuitive product experiences, and improving our understanding of the real world.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
