Security Engineer II, Core, Enterprise Access Security Engineering

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1 year of experience with security assessments, security analysis, and cyber security.
  • 1 year of coding experience in one or more general purpose languages.
  • Experience with security engineering, computer and network security and security protocols.
  • Experience with automation tools and processes.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience assessing security designs, managing identity and access controls (IAM), and responding to security issues in complex enterprise environments.
  • Experience with identity and access management (IAM), authentication, authorization, and access control models.
  • Experience building, securing, or evaluating AI agents and LLM workflows (e.g., prompt engineering, agent skills, safety guardrails), with an understanding of agentic security risks (e.g., prompt injection, over-privileged access, or data exfiltration).
  • Experience applying statistical analysis and querying large datasets or access logs (using SQL or custom scripts) to measure control effectiveness (e.g., precision/recall, A/B experiments), identify risks, and validate policy changes.

About the job

Our Security team works to create and maintain the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers. Security Engineers work with network equipment and actively monitor our systems for attacks and intrusions. In this role, you will also work with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities.

The mission of the Enterprise Access Security Engineering (EASE) team is to make it simple for Googlers to safely access what they need while making it difficult for Google's Adversaries to access what they want.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $123000 - $174000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Create, assess, and harden infrastructure designs, systems, and access policy enforcement points across all levels of the stack for human users, workloads, and AI agents.
  • Ensure access infrastructure and agentic workflows are resilient against attacks, privilege misuse, and abuse.
  • Contribute technical, process, and engineering solutions to identify human and AI agent access risks, improve the security posture of google.com, and enable scalable management of security controls across Alphabet.
  • Write feature requests, define safety guardrails, and influence security improvements in products and enterprise AI agents to enable secure use at scale.
  • Consult with engineering teams on authentication, authorization, and adaptive access control through security design reviews, threat modeling, and operational triage.
