Senior Data Application Engineer, Core

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or other technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience programming with Python or Java, and experience with SQL queries and database development.
  • 8 years of experience designing and implementing modern data architectures for enterprise-level data.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, MIS or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts and their specific data requirements.
  • Familiarity with established data governance frameworks and best practices for ethical AI and data privacy.

You lead all aspects of web development, requirements gathering, software development, testing, documentation, training, implementation, ongoing support, and maintenance for both in-house and customer-facing web applications. You will work closely with a cross-functional team of Googlers using UI and functional specs/prototypes as input. As a Senior Data Application Engineer in the Spaces Engineering team, you will lead the design and implementation of data foundations for the Real Estate and Workplace Services IT portfolio. You will implement and maintain an AI-ready data landscape, ensuring our data foundation seamlessly supports operations ranging from high-level strategic portfolio planning to advanced analytical demands and upcoming artificial intelligence initiatives. You will collaborate extensively with enterprise data architects and application engineers, build robust data pipelines, governance frameworks, and automations to optimize our data ecosystem for machine learning applications.The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $163000 - $236000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of data foundations, including high-performance models and reliable pipelines for real estate functions, to optimize data for artificial intelligence consumption.
  • Design modern, automated data pipelines to extract data from various internal and external sources while ensuring high-quality, consistency, and structural integrity.
  • Set up modern cloud data lakehouses to support a complex ecosystem of real-time streams, AI-ready datasets, and data-mesh architectures.
  • Ensure the adoption of comprehensive data governance standards by implementing data contracts and automated quality checks across all real estate data assets.
  • Design, build, and audit highly optimized SQL-based workflows and advanced analytical queries in modern cloud data warehouses.
