Regulatory Counsel, Content

Minimum qualifications:

  • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.
  • 7 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in legal, regulatory, or corporate compliance.
  • Experience engaging with regulators, including state attorneys general, federal trade commission, department of justice, and global data protection or consumer protection authorities.
  • Experience in developing and evaluating programs ensuring products comply with laws, regulations, and external commitment.
  • Understanding of complex technical issues within fast-paced technology companies to provide actionable, precise legal guidance on product design and safety.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and investigative skills, with the ability to manage complex projects and partnering effectively with cross-functional teams to drive integrity.

About the job

As a Regulatory Counsel, Content, you will join a Global team that provides subject matter expertise and engages with regulators, academics, and others to consider the role of Content law in the face of our changing economy, the development of new technology, and passage of new laws and regulations. The role involves interpreting laws, partnering with internal stakeholders across the company to mitigate risk, and helping communicate our compliance externally.20th century laws don't always solve 21st century problems, and Google Legal crafts innovative approaches for working with some of the toughest legal challenges of the information age. Responsibilities

  • Interpret laws and other compliance obligations into requirements for Compliance, Business, Product, and Engineering teams.
  • Provide legal advice on compliance programs and policies to help mitigate risk.
  • Manage government and regulator discussions, negotiations, and disclosures on compliance readiness efforts.
  • Collaborate efectively with global Content team and RA counterparts to support driving defensible compliance positions, counsel launches, build effective programs and coherent engagement programs.
  • Work with Legal, RCI and Policy stakeholders to deliver engagement and compliance.
