Assurance Testing Specialist, Global Compliance

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience in compliance, risk management, investigation, auditing, legal, or consulting.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience organizing data and applying business context to improve processes or operations.
  • Experience in advanced audit, risk, legal and assurance/testing.
  • Experience conducting control audits, process assessments, or technical risk reviews.
  • Experience collaborating effectively with cross-functional partner teams and influencing decision-making at all levels.
  • Demonstrated capacity to analyze fragmented inputs, bring clarity to ambiguous situations, synthesize key attributes, and develop balanced recommendations and outcomes.

About the job

The Payments Assurance Testing (PAT) team provides independent, Second-Line-of-Defense (2LOD) oversight to ensure that Google’s payment entities operate with robust, reliable processes and controls. The team's primary mission is to identify, assess, and mitigate compliance risks through a risk-based assurance framework. The team's goal is to independently evaluate the compliance, effectiveness, and efficiency of internal programs and processes.By shifting focus from basic monitoring to comprehensive assurance, we keep Payments Compliance vigilant, resilient, and fully aligned with global regulatory requirements.

This critical Second Line of Defense (2LOD) role delivers objective, independent assurance across Google’s payments ecosystem by managing the end-to-end assurance lifecycle. You will lead proactive testing and comprehensive process reviews to identify, assess, and mitigate regulatory and compliance risks before they materialize. Utilizing a disciplined, risk-based review approach, you will evaluate both manual and automated control environments, ensure robust issue remediation, and safeguard Google's operational integrity.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $136000 - $197000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Policy, Risk, Regional Compliance Officers and cross-functional teams to define the testing universe and design a defensible, risk-based assurance plan.
  • Conduct detailed process walkthroughs to perform Test of Design (TOD), and execute sample-based testing to evaluate Test of Operating Effectiveness (TOE).
  • Analyze operational workflows, policy directives, and Google Binding Commitments to proactively uncover and document systemic control gaps.
  • Drive the entire testing journey from establishing a defensible, risk-based plan with stakeholders to drafting and presenting final findings to leadership forums.
  • Partner with control owners to document deficiencies, assign risk ratings, and perform rigorous post-remediation testing to confirm corrective actions permanently resolve issues.
