Policy Specialist, Legal Investigations Support

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in a policy, legal, Trust and Safety, or technology environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with acting as a change driver, managing procedure updates, and successfully scaling or automating workflows.
  • Possess experience testifying on behalf of a large enterprise, while seamlessly partnering with external counsel.
  • A track record of prioritizing collective team success and a consistent history of supporting peers to balance workloads and achieve shared goals.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguous, rapidly evolving legal and policy landscapes and manage high-pressure escalations with composure, sound judgment.
  • Proven resourcefulness in tracking down answers by effectively utilizing AI tools and identifying the right contacts for critical information.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills.

Trust & Safety team members are tasked with identifying and taking on the biggest problems that challenge the safety and integrity of our products. They use technical know-how, excellent problem-solving skills, user insights, and proactive communication to protect users and our partners from abuse across Google products like Search, Maps, Gmail, and Google Ads. On this team, you're a big-picture thinker and strategic team-player with a passion for doing what’s right. You work globally and cross-functionally with Google engineers and product managers to identify and fight abuse and fraud cases at Google speed - with urgency. And you take pride in knowing that every day you are working hard to promote trust in Google and ensuring the highest levels of user safety.

As a Policy Specialist within the Legal Investigations Support (LIS) team, you will be an advocate behind the success of our global legal operations. The LIS team manages requests for user data received from government agencies, courts, and parties in civil and criminal litigation. In this role, you will manage these legal requests, processing them through complex internal policies, tools, and workflows. In this position, you will independently resolve complex US Legal Team escalations using your subject matter expertise. As a Trial team custodian of records, you will travel to trials to authenticate records and collaborate closely with Counsel.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $111000 - $159000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Review, process, and respond to legal requests related to real-world investigations on Google users.
  • Apply standard tools, resources, and processes to respond to complex inquiries and escalations from law enforcement agencies, courts, and third-party attorneys.
  • Exercise sound, independent judgment on highly sensitive matters, establishing an intuitive balance between autonomous decision-making and strategic escalations to leadership and cross-functional partners.
  • Utilize and configure AI/ML tools to extract advanced risk signals, drive operational efficiencies and enhance quality.
  • Attend high profile trials on behalf of Google (Travel is required).
