Strategic Negotiator IV, Water Policy and Market Development

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience leading negotiations or business development.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in water or environmental management strategy, and cross-functional planning (e.g., roadmap, objective and key results, processes).
  • Experience in a cross-functional role at the interface of commercial and engineering teams, with a track record of driving results and execution in multi-stakeholder environments and complex systems.
  • Experience supporting or developing strategic initiatives with water domain NGOs, companies, and research institutions.
  • Familiarity with the water and cooling market landscape, such as standard and emerging technologies, policy drivers, and market design.
  • Understanding of water-based cooling technologies and the hyperscale data center environment.

As Google's products and services scale the globe, the Strategic Negotiation team works behind the scenes to secure infrastructure for Google's future -- everything from underwater cables to physical data center space. As a Strategic Negotiator, you combine your deep market knowledge of a given sector with tech industry savvy to negotiate cost-effective solutions to support Google's infrastructure growth. You'll work with specific project teams on negotiating agreements, managing vendor and partner relationships and presenting agreement recommendations to our Tech leadership. Your successful negotiations have the potential to save Google millions of dollars in operating costs and impact every part of the business.

As a member of Google’s Advanced Water and Cooling team, you will have the opportunity to be a part of a global organization working to make the company’s data centers and utility supply chains more resilient, efficient, and sustainable. You will combine your creativity and knowledge with organizational skills and data-driven analysis to manage various initiatives that support the development and maintenance of Google’s data center water and cooling supply chain. The Advanced Water and Cooling team plays a key role in developing and procuring water, cooling, and heat reuse infrastructure solutions, driving strategic technical and commercial programs for our data center fleet, and delivering on our water sustainability strategy.

You'll work with specific project teams on site development, delivering off-site utility infrastructure, managing relationships with local officials, utilities, and AHJ’s (Authority Having Jurisdiction), and presenting portfolio recommendations to our Tech leadership.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Ireland: €146000 - €150000 (EUR) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits
Netherlands: €154000 - €158000 (EUR) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal and external technical teams to identify, define, and pursue new site expansion projects and initiatives necessary to meet Google's ongoing data center needs, including the procurement of infrastructure for existing and new sites.
  • Negotiate all types of agreements with all types of vendors within a domain. Lead the development of strategic agreements with vendors, landowners, and key suppliers for space and utility services.
  • Maintain water stakeholder mapping, and develop ongoing relationships with key stakeholders, AHJs, and policymakers in select geographies to understand local priorities on water.
  • Craft and execute local and state-level market development strategies, based on this mapping, to deliver solutions to Google’s water and cooling needs, integrating water risk, infrastructure considerations, community priorities, and policy headwinds.
  • Originate and source water replenishment projects, identifying new pathways to address local watershed challenges.
