Software Engineer, Google Pay Shopping

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • 1 year of experience with full stack development, across back-end such as Java, Python, GO, or C++ codebases, and front-end experience including JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS or equivalent.
  • Experience working with JavaScript, Java, Kotlin, PHP, Python, Ruby, Node.js, Go, iOS, Android Mobile App development, or web technologies.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with mobile app or front-end/client development.
  • Experience with building systems that scale users globally.
  • Experience in working with PM/UX to drive end-to-end features.
  • Experience developing mobile applications using Flutter and Dart.
  • Experience with developing machine learning models, launch experiments (A/B Testing), and end-to-end data infra and analytics pipelines.

The mission for Google Commerce is to be an essential part of the shopping journey for consumers - from inspiration to to a simple and secure checkout experience - and the best place for retailers/merchants to connect with consumers. We support and partner with the commerce ecosystem, from large retailers to small local merchants, to give them the tools, technology and scale to thrive in today’s digital world.

Responsibilities

  • Work extensively in a Flutter (Dart) codebase delivering seamless, cross-platform (Android and iOS) shopping experiences to GPay users.
  • Partner effectively with Product Management (PM) and UX leads to build new user-facing experiences, and collaborate closely with cross-product area partner teams (like Google Shopping and ARML) to integrate AI/ML models into the client.
  • Develop and iterate on LLM prompts and AI infra setup to improve the quality of our conversational AI stylist.
  • Conduct rigorous AI evaluations, including operational and qualitative assessments for conversational AI response and image/video GenAI results.
  • Design and implement server-side logic and robust data pipelines to power real-time feed updates, personalization, and offline-generated visual assets (e.g., virtual Try-On videos).
