Senior Staff Software Engineer, GDC Infra Cluster

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 5 years of experience with design and architecture; and testing/launching software products.
  • 5 years of experience with cloud platforms, distributed computing, building scalable architecture, and leading software engineering teams.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 5 years of experience building, scaling, and maintaining production Kubernetes infrastructure, Anthos/Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) enterprise, or bare-metal hybrid cloud deployments.

The Infra Cluster team delivers the core Kubernetes-based compute infrastructure powering the Google Distributed Cloud (GDC) product line, spanning air-gapped, connected, Gemini-enabled, and software-only configurations.

As the foundational cluster orchestration engine for GDC, this platform supports a wide array of high-performance layered services. The team also manages the GDC software-only standalone product, enabling enterprise customers to easily deploy and orchestrate Kubernetes clusters on-premises.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $262000 - $364000 (USD) + 25% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Define the technical roadmap and strategy for the Kubernetes Infrastructure layer of the GDC product line.
  • Drive and influence engineering excellence across the organization, establish Service Level Objective (SLO) driven engineering practices, deliver industry-leading infrastructure with top supportability, stability, and resilience.
  • Drive and lead the end-to-end development lifecycle for GDC projects, from concept and design to deployment and maintenance.
  • Work closely with GDC product, operators, SREs (Site Reliability Engineers), and other engineering teams and lead to deliver impactful solutions.
  • Ensure the tools and applications are robust, scalable, and performant, meeting the high demands of a global infrastructure.
