About the job

As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You’ll combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you’ll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. You're passionate about the opportunity to shape the future of how we use and build technology for everyone.

Our mission is to use Knowledge and Information (K&I) products/tools with a primary focus on Geo and Education to establish positive, tangible narratives that help underscore our alignment with policymakers priorities, building paths to stronger, more durable relationships. We pursue a truly One Google approach, listening to policy stakeholders needs and identifying targeted ways to demonstrate how our products can support their priorities. We localize messaging, draft on existing initiatives, and build new cross-functional projects that demonstrate our commitment to providing real value to their communities. We generally focus on building stronger relationships with five groups: local leaders (including elected officials), teachers/schools; SMBs/startups, corporate partners/allies, and other thought leaders whose perspectives are valued by elected officials.

Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments across the region, providing insightful analysis and actionable recommendations to inform Google’s local and global strategies.
  • Drive the development and execution of proactive policy strategies in the region to support Google’s Education-focused products (including Google Workspace for Education, Gemini for Education, Gemini Notebook, Chromebooks, etc.).
  • Own end-to-end workstreams for high-priority policy programs and advocacy initiatives, including by building and nurturing relationships with policymakers, trade associations, industry partners, non-profit groups, academics, and other third-party allies.
  • Align with product teams regularly to ensure advocacy is closely tethered to business priorities and growth opportunities.
  • Achieve Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) objectives through thoughtful cross-functional collaboration with local government affairs teams, marketing, communications, and legal to amplify our impact.
