Senior Software Engineer, Safe Coding

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
  • 3 years of experience building software for data privacy or security (e.g., identity and access management).
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products.
  • 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • Experience in participating in open-source development, leading open-source projects, or projects with significant open source dependencies.
  • Experience in building developer ecosystems, package managers, and build systems, with a proven track record of designing optimal workflows and driving cross-organizational partnerships.
  • Knowledge of software supply chain security issues, vulnerability management, or related fields.

Google’s Product Security team is a global force of over 300 engineers in Zurich, Munich, Sunnyvale, Seattle, San Francisco and some other exciting places around the globe.

The Safe Coding team contributes to that mission by managing some of the biggest risks in software security. We innovate at scale by making secure coding effortless, for everyone.

In this role, you will help anchor our Software Supply Chain security team and co-lead innovation at scale to make secure coding absolutely effortless for everyone.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example, driving engineering excellence across the team while actively mentoring and developing technical talent.
  • Partner closely with Engineering Managers, Product Managers, and Technical Program Managers (T/PgMs) to define, refine, and execute the team’s goal, roadmap, and broader AI strategy.
  • Stay ahead of the evolving agentic threat landscape and navigate a dynamic AI environment, leading fast-paced, creative problem-solving to address emerging and legacy technical challenges.
  • Cultivate strong, actionable partnerships across internal stakeholders including Google's software supply chain integrity program and executive leadership as well as external industry leaders and academic partners.
