Minimum qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • 8 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis, or 6 years of work experience with a PhD degree.
  • Experience in Trust and Safety, Child Safety, regulatory compliance, or privacy-first product development.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 10 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis, or 8 years of work experience with a PhD degree.
  • 3 years of experience as a people manager within a technical leadership role.

The Google Kids and Family team is dedicated to creating safe, enriching, and intuitive digital experiences for users and their parents across the entire Google ecosystem. As a Data Science Manager for the Kids and Families team, you will lead a growing team of high-performing Data Scientists dedicated to building safe, enriching, and regulatory-compliant digital experiences for users and parents. You will balance people management with technical leadership, guiding the team as they dive into complex behavioral data across Google’s ecosystem. You will have a unique opportunity to shape the team's long-term goal, mature our data practices, and lead critical cross-functional collaborations.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $207000 - $301000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Establish a unified team goal and strategy for Kids and Family Data Science to align different product offerings and focus areas.
  • Lead and coach a team of Data Scientists by providing actionable feedback and supporting career development.
  • Mature data practices, methodologies, and infrastructure in collaboration with data engineering to establish robust processes for analysis, modeling, and reproducibility.
  • Set the technical roadmap for modeling and analysis efforts to ensure statistical accuracy, data integrity, and code quality.
  • Guide the development, evaluation, and scaling of classification models while leading cross-functional engagement across different product areas.
