Lab Manager, Silicon Validation, Silicon Engineering

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with hand soldering, including Surface Mount Technology (SMT) components (up to 0402 size).

Preferred qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience in vendor management and procurements (e.g., procurement of electromechanical and laboratory components), PCB and Flexible Printed Circuit Board (FPCB) rework (e.g., soldering, de-soldering, crimping, etc), and fabrication techniques used for rapid prototyping (laser cutting, 3D printing, drill press, band saw, etc).
  • 3 years of experience integrating complex systems (e.g., audio, video, compute, optics, etc).
  • 3 years of experience creating and maintaining technical documentation (e.g., drawings, schematics, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), etc).
  • 3 years of experience testing, troubleshooting, and failure analysis.
  • Ability to perform minor rework on PCBs and to read schematics and PCB layouts.

Google's custom-designed machines make up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Hardware Testing Engineering team ensures that this equipment is reliable. In the R&D lab, you design test equipment for prototypes of our machinery and develop the protocols used to scale these tests for the entire global team. Working closely with design engineers, you give input on designs to improve our hardware until you're sure it meets Google's standards of quality and reliability.

In this role, you will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of our silicon validation lab. You will play a crucial role in supporting our engineering teams by ensuring a safe, smooth and efficient lab environment. You will play a key role in enabling the bring-up, validation and characterization activities. You will be working closely with third-party vendors on equipment procurement and landing and for engaging with contract workers.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe lab environment while managing and organizing lab inventory, including hardware components, tools, and equipment and manage incoming and outgoing shipments, including packing and unpacking deliveries.
  • Install, diagnose, and troubleshoot computer and server hardware, network devices (hosts, switches, routers, programmers), and network infrastructure.
  • Perform Linux system administration tasks, including debugging system and network issues related to lab networks and engineering test setups and provide assist in managing user setups and lab hardware inventory.
