Group Product Manager, Android Platform Foundations

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in product management or a related technical role.
  • 5 years of experience taking technical products from conception to launch (e.g., ideation to execution, end-to-end, 0 to 1, etc).
  • Experience integrating generative AI tools or LLM interfaces into workflows.
  • Experience in product management working with operating systems as well as building and managing consumer electronics.
  • Experience with operating systems and application development tools and framework.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 7 years of experience working cross-functionally with engineering, UX/UI, sales finance, and other stakeholders.
  • 5 years of experience in a role preparing and delivering technical presentations to executive leadership.
  • 5 years of experience in software development or engineering.
  • Experience in mobile app development and working with OEM partners.
  • Experience building and managing android-based consumer electronics.
  • Experience with leading and driving high quality execution in complex operating systems similar to android.

Our team works closely with creative engineers, designers, marketers, etc. to help design and develop technologies that improve access to the world's information. We're responsible for guiding products throughout the execution cycle, focusing specifically on analyzing, positioning, packaging, promoting, and tailoring our solutions to our users.

The Android CoreOS system health team drives the core efficiency of the Android platform, ensuring a fast, power-efficient, and dependable experience globally. To achieve this, we handle deep engineering issues in power optimization and memory management mitigating RAM bloat, introducing intelligent resource guardrails to extend battery life, and partnering with developers, OEMs, and SoCs for end-to-end optimizations.

In this role, you will own the multi-year product strategy for android platform fragmentation and system health. You will define the goal to build a highly-crafted foundational OS serving users, developers, and OEM partners. A critical aspect of the role involves creating a joint long-term roadmap in deep partnership with OEMs, while regularly presenting your strategy and progress through formal business reviews with Android executive leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the multi-year product goals and strategy to reduce android OEM fragmentation to improve user satisfaction. This includes creative solutions to rearchitect android system components across a wide variety of partners with conflicting opinions.
  • Define and drive the multi-year product goals and strategy for android system health, specifically owning and driving a cross-product area memory code purple for at least the next 18 months.
  • Develop a cross-organisation strategy to improve android app quality and consistency with an acute focus on low-end devices.
  • Translate complex user needs and technical issues into a clear, prioritized roadmap, focusing on sustained long-term performance, taming standby power, and overall system health.
