Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience programming in C++, Java, Python, Kotlin or Go.
- 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
- 5 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.
- Experience with machine learning, large language models, Python, and machine learning optimization .
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in machine learning, or 5 years of industry experience in applied machine learning/machine learning research.
- Experience with machine learning, large language models, Python, and machine learning optimization.
- Expertise in NLP, LLM, computer vision.
- Knowledge of android framework.
- Strong programming skills in Python, C++.
- Passionate and respectful team player, and ability to grow the team, with leadership and collaboration skills, as well as excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.
Our team is transforming Android into the premier AI-powered operating system by integrating agentic capabilities. Leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) and advanced machine learning, we redefine mobile interactions through agents that fulfill complex user requests via UI automation, tool calling, and hybrid architectures.
In this role, you will manage cutting-edge technical challenges, including building and deploying sophisticated LLM solutions, developing agents that interpret screen content, understand user behavior, and execute actions through APIs, enhancing model efficiency and latency for mobile hardware, and partnering with GDM on pre-training and post-training Gemma models specifically for computer use and tool calling.
The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.
US: $262000 - $364000 (USD) + 25% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities
- Perform advanced ML modeling with large language models (LLMs).
- Develop AI agents that effectively understands user behavior, screen content and use tools/APIs.
- Optimize ML models for on-device performance.
- Work closely with the GDM, Gemma Frontier, Gemini app, and Android framework teams.
