Senior Counsel and Manager, Content Advisory

Minimum qualifications:

  • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.
  • 10 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm.
  • Experience managing teams.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience with legal, regulatory or corporate compliance, including strategically addressing, minimizing and avoiding regulatory risk.
  • Expereince engaging with content, consumer and AI regulators across APAC.
  • Experience developing, evaluating, and maintaining programs that ensure products comply with laws, regulations, and external commitments.
  • Experience working with technology companies and ability to understand complex technical issues.
  • Experience working with public company boards and their counsel, including special committees and audit committees.

About the job

As a Senior Counsel and Manager of Regulatory Affairs, Content Advisory in APAC, you’ll be leading an APAC team responsible for advising on critical risks pertaining to content, AI and consumer protection laws, leading engagement strategy for the key regulators within those areas and providing advice across the company on compliance strategies on all regulations in those fields. You'll work closely with GAPP, Compliance and regional legal teams, supporting the shaping of law and with Google and other Alphabet companies’ Product and Engineering teams to help ensure compliance.

You will lead our engagement efforts across APAC with relevant regulators and work cross-functionally across regions to ensure consistency and cohesion across a wealth of issues. You will also lead content risk leads interactions with Product and Engineering teams to translate legislation, and other obligations into design ideas to ensure compliance across a widening set of content, AI and consumer protection regulations. You will provide legal advice and subject matter insights to varied legal and non-legal internal teams while reviewing proposed product designs, and advise teams on risks that arise during implementation, and on product launches and business deals to help assess and navigate regulatory risks. Additionally, you will develop our team structure to ensure exceptional performance and strong and trusted relationships within Alphabet. You will partner with regional teams to provide support and advice for regulatory engagement globally.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret laws and other compliance obligations into requirements for Compliance, Business, Product, and Engineering teams. Provide legal advice on compliance programs and policies to help mitigate risk.
  • Lead government and regulator discussions, negotiations, and disclosures on compliance readiness efforts.
  • Lead team and set the engagement strategy to best defend the company and advance proactive positions. Guide and manage a growing and dynamic team.
  • Support GAPP on shaping new laws in Content, AI and Consumer Protection. Work with cross-functional teams on launch and product advice. Work with Legal, RCI and Policy stakeholders to deliver engagement and compliance.
  • Collaborate efectively with global content team and RA counterparts to support driving defensible compliance positions, counsel launches, build effective programs and coherent engagement programs.
