Senior Product Manager, Discover Recommendations

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in product management, or a related technical role.
  • 3 years of experience taking technical products from conception to launch (e.g., ideation to execution, end-to-end, 0 to 1, etc.).
  • Experience working with recommender systems, personalized discovery, or Machine Learning (ML) based products.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a technology or business related field.
  • 5 years of experience working cross-functionally with engineering, UX/UI, sales finance, and other stakeholders.
  • Product management experience shipping consumer-facing feed recommendation systems, search quality, or personalized discovery products at scale.

Our team works closely with creative engineers, designers, marketers, etc. to help design and develop technologies that improve access to the world's information. We're responsible for guiding products throughout the execution cycle, focusing specifically on analyzing, positioning, packaging, promoting, and tailoring our solutions to our users.

As a Senior Product Manager, you will solve large-scale recommendation and relevance challenges. You will blend deep technical intuition with sharp product sense, understanding the complex algorithmic trade-offs required to maximize user satisfaction. They bring experience solving search quality, ranking, or retrieval problems with a relentless focus on user value. You will build systems that deeply understand user interests and predict engagement. You will work with engineering teams, help drive deep-learning ranking models beyond click-through rates to optimize for scroll depth and meaningful user engagement. You will partner closely with Engineering and Research to translate complex Machine Learning infrastructure (deep models, feature streaming, scoring efficiency) into intuitive consumer product metrics.

US: $192000 - $278000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Define the product strategy and roadmap for the recommendation systems that form the core of the Google Discover experience.
  • Define success metrics, design experiments, and own the key performance indicators that drive iterative improvements in personalization and data-driven decision-making.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis to identify trade-offs and win or loss patterns in our recommendations, translating these insights into actionable product requirements for our recommendation systems.
  • Drive initiatives that balance relevance and novelty, expertly managing exploration versus exploitation to maximize long-term user satisfaction.
  • Partner with engineering, research, experience, and go-to-market teams to translate product strategy into clear requirements and a prioritized roadmap.
