Associate Corporate Counsel, Quantum AI

Minimum qualifications:

  • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.
  • 3 years of relevant legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department advising on science and technology, product liability, privacy, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, or computer hardware and software paradigms.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or additional degrees in physical sciences or engineering (e.g., physics, electrical engineering, materials science) or equivalent practical experience working closely with deep-tech Research and Development (R&D) teams.
  • Ability to build relationships and establish credibility with business leaders in service of “getting to yes.”
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible in a changing environment with limited direction, balance priorities, and manage several time-sensitive projects at once.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a high volume of requests, and an eagerness to take on legal issues in the field of artificial intelligence.

About the job

We are looking for an adept legal counsel with experience in advising on computing hardware and software paradigms. In this role, you will work with product managers, engineers and researchers to support the Google Quantum AI team’s rapid scaling and frontier goal of building quantum computing for otherwise unsolvable problems, targeting the delivery of truly useful error-corrected machines. You will be working closely with product, business, and cross-functional teams and counseling quantum computing products and services end-to-end, from research and development to launch and beyond. The initiatives in this area are brand new and growing, at the quantum information science and technology. You will be responsible for a mixed portfolio advising on a wide range of legal issues including privacy, intellectual property, security, marketing, consumer protection, and competition, among others.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $217000 - $314000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Provide solution-oriented legal advice to teams including engineering (both hardware and software), product management, operations, and business development from the initial stages of product research and development to launch and beyond.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. and international laws/regulations dealing with intellectual property, security, marketing, competition, privacy, and consumer protection.
  • Partner with research and product teams and IP counsel to support the development and operationalization of product and intellectual property strategy across the entire quantum hardware and software lifecycle.
  • Draft, review and discuss a variety of complex agreements governing industry and academic partnerships, supply chain and operations, or investments.
  • Serve as a trusted partner to Quantum AI product, engineering, business, and other cross-functional teams on strategy and execution in complex legal areas.
