Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience negotiating and structuring agreements or leading business development.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of key energy stakeholders, regulatory frameworks, market design, and emerging trends within the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) footprint and its member state jurisdictions.
  • Demonstrated success securing strategic energy regulatory, policy, or market outcomes within SPP stakeholder processes and relevant regional state energy regulatory arenas, particularly through leading or collaborating with industry coalitions and customer groups.
  • Creative approach to solving complex, multi-stakeholder challenges, with the ability to grow in environments of ambiguity and rapid market evolution, robust executive presence, strong relationship-building acumen, exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and superb project management capabilities.

As a Strategic Negotiator, you combine your deep market knowledge of a given sector with tech industry savvy to negotiate cost-effective solutions to support Google's infrastructure growth. You'll work with specific project teams on negotiating deals, managing vendor and partner relationships and presenting deal recommendations to our Tech leadership. Your successful negotiations have the potential to save Google millions of dollars in operating costs and impact every part of the business.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $150000 - $217000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic evaluations of regulatory and wholesale market environments across the Southwest Power Pool footprint, monitoring market design evolution, electric pricing dynamics, transmission expansion, emerging large-load tariffs, stakeholder dynamics, and member utility structures to assess risks and capture opportunities for data center portfolio.
  • Develop/lead energy market and energy regulatory solutions to address Google’s electricity supply needs across SPP, including designing engagement strategies for stakeholder working groups, regional governance bodies, and state commission proceedings across the RTO footprint.
  • Work cross-functionally with Google’s Global Infrastructure, Product, Public Policy, and Commercial teams to align SPP energy market and regulatory positions with Google's broader infrastructure development, grid reliability, and 24/7 carbon-free energy goals.
  • Lead energy advocacy and coalition-building within stakeholder committees, regional trade associations, customer coalitions, and transmission owners to advance Google’s strategic energy interests and priorities.
