Lead Acoustic Engineer, Wearable Devices

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience working on acoustic solution designs on consumer electronic products.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Physics or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience leading acoustic solution design and execution on consumer electronic products.
  • Experience with acoustic test tools: SoundCheck, Klippel, Audio Precision, Polytec, etc, and simulation tools: COMSOL, Ares, etc.
  • Experience in shipping end-to-end acoustic solutions, from product concept through production.
  • Experience leading broader efforts and peers in a technical lead or manager capacity, and experience defining and driving long-term technology roadmaps.
  • Effective cross-functional communication and collaboration skills, including translating technical tradeoffs to customer impact, influencing product decisions, navigating and resolving ambiguity.

About the job

The TechEng Acoustic team's mission is to design and deliver world class acoustic hardware (speaker and microphone) solutions enabling the best audio interaction and experiences across all of Google's consumer hardware products.

As a Lead Acoustic Engineer, you will lead the exploration, design, and execution of new speaker and mic solutions for new products, as well as leading the long term acoustic tech road map for the overall emerging product category.
Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $159000 - $230000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of speakers and mic solutions in new consumer devices, from early concept through mass production.
  • Define and lead the long term acoustic technology trajectory road maps for emerging product categories.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional design, engineering, product, operations teams to achieve acoustic solutions balancing ambitious performance, space, cost, and user experience goals.
  • Conduct acoustic simulations and lab testing of acoustic modules and products to validate performance.
  • Collaborate with vendors and technology partners to scope customized components and new technologies. Support module and product factories to define and guide assembly, test, failure analysis efforts.
