Lead Accountant (English, Spanish)

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience in accounting or a related function, or 1 year with an advanced degree in accounting, business, or finance.
  • Ability to communicate in English and Spanish fluently to support client relationship management in this region.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in business partnering, and with technology, or strong interest in utilizing AI, scripts, or advanced automation tools to enhance financial reporting and control environments.
  • Understanding of US GAAP, local GAAP (e.g., NIF, IFRS), and internal control frameworks (SOX).
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment and to lead and drive complex operational initiatives.
  • Ability to handle a varied and various workload, while ensuring accuracy, timeliness and a high degree of attention to detail and a commitment to continuous process improvement.
  • Team player who demonstrates strong drive for results, shows leadership.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

The Google International Controllership team's mission is to keep Google safe, legal and operating in each jurisdiction in which the company operates. As a member of this various and dynamic team you know your accounting principles and the full accounting process end to end. You will be responsible for the statutory financial and tax filings required by law, and you will also manage and enhance the financial control environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily accounting operations and statutory compliance for Google entities across Latin America (LATAM) and Canada.
  • Maintain the mandatory compliance full alignment with US GAAP, local statutory reporting standards, and regional tax laws.
  • Modernize finance processes using AI tools and automation to reduce manual toil and streamline reporting cycles.
  • Act as a financial advisor to mitigate operational risk, guide key decision-making, and scale financial infrastructure.
  • Lead monthly financial closes, statutory audit coordination, and accurate balance sheet reconciliations.
