Director, Security Software Engineering, Google Cloud

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in software engineering, systems architecture, or software security.
  • 8 years of experience leading engineering teams and managing managers.
  • Experience building distributed systems, security platforms, or cloud-native developer tooling.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or Cybersecurity.
  • Experience adapting SDLC paradigms for AI/LLM code generation and agentic automation.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to drive alignment across global organizations.
  • Track record of building high-performing engineering teams at hyperscale tech companies.
  • Expertise in Autonomous Security Posture Management (ASPM) and continuous verification.
  • Solid background in cloud-native platforms, container runtimes, and AI-driven defense.

About the job

As the Director of Security Software Engineering, you will build and scale a critical engineering organization at the forefront of securing modern cloud software ecosystems. You will define the overarching technical vision, strategy, and execution for autonomous security posture, next-generation secure software lifecycles, and cloud-native defense across Google Cloud.

In this senior leadership role, you will combine deep software engineering and security architecture expertise with a passion for leading high-performing, multi-tiered engineering teams. Your mission is to eliminate systemic software vulnerabilities, pioneer security paradigms for AI-driven and agentic software development, and embed autonomous controls deep into developer and cloud infrastructure workflows at hyperscale.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $307000 - $427000 (USD) + 30% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Build, lead, and mentor a global organization of software engineers, security architects, and managers.
  • Define multi-year technical vision and engineering standards across security management and secure platforms while partnering with senior executive stakeholders to align priorities and drive shared outcomes.
  • Architect Autonomous Security Posture Management (ASPM) frameworks, incorporating automated detection, continuous verification, and platform-level telemetry to eliminate manual audit overhead.
  • Pioneer secure-by-design SDLC paradigms for AI-generated code and agentic development, embedding runtime governance and automated verification into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Drive cloud-native security engineering across microservice meshes and distributed platforms, leveraging AI/ML capabilities to accelerate defensive mitigations and threat modeling at hyperscale.
