Senior Technical Threat Investigator, Trust and Safety Intel Investigations

GoogleWashington D.C., DC, USA

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Intelligence Studies, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in data analysis, cybersecurity, or technical threat investigations, including identifying trends, generating summary statistics, and drawing insights from quantitative and qualitative datasets.
  • 5 years of experience utilizing SQL, Python, or similar scripting/programming languages to query datasets, build data pipelines, and solve engineering and abuse-detection problems.
  • 5 years of experience managing projects, including defining project scope, goals, and deliverables in a globally distributed environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience combining investigative and engineering skills for link analysis, root-cause analysis, and correlating internal telemetry with OSINT and third-party data.
  • Experience designing and deploying AI/LLM solutions (prompt engineering, agent orchestration, evaluation workflows) to optimize investigations and scale abuse detection.
  • Experience partnering with Software Engineering and Data Science teams to engineer detection signals and evaluate performance (precision, recall, trade-offs).
  • Experience leading enterprise-wide impact projects, authoring technical requirements (BRDs), and aligning cross-functonal stakeholders.
  • Expertise in disrupting trust and safety threats (information operations, fraud, account abuse) using OSINT techniques.
  • Effectively communicates complex findings to engineering, product, policy, and leadership audiences.

About the job

In this role, your mission is to identify the highest-severity and emerging, on-platform T&S abuse and conduct technical investigative analysis to drive cross-Product Area (xPA) detection, mitigation and remediation measures.

As a part of the technical investigators team, you will proactively hunt out the biggest and baddest threat actors in the Trust and Safety space, deeply understand how they achieve their objectives on Googles family of products and services. You will then work with partner teams to stop the threat actors from being effective by deploying both network-scoped disruptions and scaled detection and enforcement mitigations.

As a Senior Engineering Analyst Investigator, you will operate at the intersection of threat intelligence, data analysis, and security engineering independently leading complex technical investigations to uncover sophisticated threat actors and building scalable, AI-enabled investigative and enforcement solutions across Google. You will lead complex, ambiguous investigations into high-severity threat actors and abuse vectors, driving cases from initial discovery and root-cause analysis through network-scoped disruptions and cross-Product Area (xPA) enforcement mitigations. You will combine investigative tradecraft with coding and analytical execution, leveraging SQL, Python, large-scale data analysis, and AI/agentic workflows to prototype automation, build data pipelines, and operationalize threat signals with engineering partners. You will bridge qualitative threat intelligence with quantitative systems analysis by evaluating detection performance (e.g., precision, recall), contributing to reusable investigative playbooks, and mentoring junior analysts.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate sophisticated emerging actor networks and behaviors across Google’s ecosystem by correlating complex internal telemetry, open-source intelligence (OSINT), and third-party intelligence at scale.
  • Identify opportunities to automate investigative tradecraft by designing and building end-to-end SQL and Python scripts and pipelines, Large Language Model (LLM)/agentic workflows, and evaluation frameworks to support proactive threat discovery.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Data Science, and Product teams to deploy network-scoped disruptions, implement high-precision signals, and evaluate and improve detection systems’ performance (e.g., precision, recall, and false-positive rates).
  • Analyze and interpret large datasets to quantify abuse trends, author actionable intelligence reports, and communicate technical findings and mitigation proposals to engineering, product, policy, and leadership stakeholders.
  • Review graphic, controversial, or objectionable material (including child exploitation, graphic violence, self-injury, severe fraud/scams, and other disturbing content).
