Strategic Sourcing Engineer, DeepMind

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, Supply Chain, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in sourcing, commodity management, supplier engineering, manufacturing engineering, supply chain, or a related hardware function.
  • Experience sourcing and managing hardware components, assemblies, or manufacturing processes, and experience evaluating supplier technical and manufacturing capabilities.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, Supply Chain, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience leading supplier selection, RFQ/RFP processes, cost analysis, commercial negotiations, and supplier development across the hardware product lifecycle.
  • Experience partnering with engineering and manufacturing teams during product development, NPI, supplier qualification, and production ramp.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

As a Strategic Sourcing Engineer, you will execute sourcing strategies for critical hardware commodities supporting development and scale-up. Embedded closely with Engineering, you will combine technical understanding, supply chain expertise, and commercial judgment to influence design decisions and build resilient supply chains. You will own assigned hardware commodities end-to-end, managing supply risks and enabling rapid prototyping and design iteration alongside production-ready execution.

US: $212000 - $230000 (USD) + 15% bonus target

Responsibilities

  • Develop and own commodity sourcing strategies, building deep expertise in technology, manufacturing, the supplier landscape, cost, and market dynamics—translating roadmaps into supplier strategies from R&D through production scale.
  • Partner with Engineering across the product lifecycle to identify, evaluate, and select suppliers based on technical capability, manufacturability, quality, cost, and scalability.
  • Lead end-to-end sourcing and commercial execution: market analysis, RFIs/RFQs, technical/commercial evaluation, cost modeling, and negotiations—securing advantageous terms on price, NRE/tooling, lead time, capacity, and cost reduction.
  • Build a resilient global supplier ecosystem by assessing capability, financial health, capacity, and sub-tier risk—mitigating supply risk through supplier development, alternate sourcing, and partnerships.
  • Drive supplier performance and continuous improvement from development through production, partnering with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing on qualification, NPI, cost reduction, and issue resolution to support execution and roadmaps.
