Principal, UX, Search Discover

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience managing, scaling, and developing UX organizations in global technology organizations.
  • 7 years of expeirence collaborating with executive partners across Product Management, Engineering, Research, and Data Science on technology products.
  • Experience leading design for consumer feeds.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience advocating ofr AI-native design tools and rapid prototyping methods (e.g., AI Studio, vibe coding) to accelerate team exploration and design velocity.
  • Strong communication and executive-influencing skills, with the ability to articulate compelling product narratives to senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-product area initiatives, unifying personalization frameworks, and building creator/publisher value exchanges.
  • Proven track record of defining product strategy for youth demographics and driving product-market fit in competitive content ecosystems.

About the job

As the Principal UX Lead for Discover, you will drive the UX strategy and execution for transforming Discover into a proactive, hyper-personalized feed. You will lead strategic design initiatives to redefine feed interactions, content formats, and AI-driven exploration experiences.

You will partner closely with executive leadership across Product Management, Engineering, Data Science, UX Research, and cross-organization partners (YouTube, Shopping, Chrome, and Android) to deliver a unified experience.

We are seeking a visionary organizational builder and craft leader who thrives in complex AI-native design spaces. You will cultivate a high-performing organization, advocating for modern prototyping tools, operational excellence, and a culture where designers can excel.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $275000 - $382000 (USD) + 30% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design vision and execution to transform Discover into a proactive, hyper-personalized concierge experience that helps users make progress on their goals. Balance AI capabilities while centering human voices and sources.
  • Develop thoughtful, user-first strategies for making Discover a more impactful experience that serves a scaled consumer base and helps existing users go deeper, moving seamlessly from inspiration to action.
  • Evolve feed formats by scaling AI enabled formats, designing new engagement mechanisms, and elevating human voices and perspectives in the feed.
  • Leverage experience with scaled consumer feed products to advocate for and drive best practices and design strategies for feed experiences.
  • Nurture and advocate for a high-craft design organization, and innovate to deliver native app interactions.
