Senior Software Engineer, Core, AI Enablement

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
  • 3 years of experience with full stack development, across back-end such as Java, Python, Golang, or C++ codebases, and front-end experience including JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS or equivalent.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products.
  • 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., code hosting platform) to accelerate delivery, focusing on system architecture, code review, and product logic.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Experience working with Large Language Modes (LLMs) and designing agentic workflows and multi-agent architectures.
  • Experience building productivity platforms or enterprise software at scale, with a strong intuition for how to elegantly merge Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) with self-supporting AI.

Within this broader organization, we act as a highly specialized Engineering Strike team a dedicated group of core software engineers focused purely on accelerating this transition through technology. We don't just consult on AI we build. As a fast-moving, high-impact 0-to-1 squad, we are dedicated to bridging the gap between AI capabilities and practical, daily engineering workflows. We build the internal products, tools, and lighthouse automation platforms that directly empower Googlers to become fundamentally more productive and AI-native, rewriting the rules of how the Google workforce builds and operates.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $174000 - $253000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + bonus + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical execution of transitioning experimental, bleeding-edge AI prototypes into scalable, and secure internal products.
  • Take full ownership of complex technical areas within the team. Index extremely high on technical problem-solving to unblock development and translate highly ambiguous concepts into tangible, delivered solutions.
  • Uphold strong engineering standards and write a lot of high-quality code. Collaborate with peers to establish best practices for AI-native software development.
