  • 2 years of experience in software development with the Java programming language.
  • 1 year of experience with API development and design.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • Experience in a development role working on complex, technically-challenging, cross-functional software oriented projects from inception to delivery.
  • Experience building, landing and scaling large-scale services and data privacy best practices.
  • Familiarity with messaging platforms, anti-abuse systems, or identity/verification technologies.

As the backbone of Google’s next-generation communication strategy, RCS Business Messaging (RBM) is revolutionizing how billions of users interact with brands by transforming the dry, text-only SMS experience into a vibrant, interactive "mini-app" directly within the native messaging app. With RCS now achieving global ubiquity—further accelerated by Apple’s adoption—our team is at the epicenter of a massive shift in the business $10B business messaging market. We aren't just building a messaging tool; we are creating a high-performance, globally distributed platform that enables seamless commerce, verified branding, and rich media at an unprecedented scale. Joining RBM means working at the intersection of high-scale infrastructure and innovative product features that are fundamentally redefining the mobile ecosystem.The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $147000 - $210000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Write product or system development code.
  • Contribute to design and implementation of the high-scale, low-latency backend systems that power secure, real-time data exchange between RBM and a global ecosystem of partners.
  • Ship production-grade, secure code and take end-to-end ownership of critical infrastructure—from initial design to global deployment and scaling.
  • Serve as a technical collaborator with other teams across Google Messages, Spam and Abuse, Search, Ads and Geo to build seamless, cross-product integrations that define the RBM experience.
  • Transform high-level product outlooks for person-to-application (P2A) into elegant technical realities, solving complex challenges in discovery and conversational AI at scale.
