Software Engineering Manager, Cloud Security, Identity and Access Management

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • 2 years of experience in a people management role managing direct reports.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Experience building Generative AI Agents.
  • Experience with Cloud Identity and Access Management.

Google Cloud Platform Identity and Access Management team is a cornerstone of Google Cloud's security and success. Our mission is to deliver Google-level security, access control, and built-in intelligence to enterprise customers at global scale. Because security is a paramount concern for organizations adopting the cloud, identity and access management is one of our most critical and heavily used services.

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the Capsium Infrastructure team. In this role, you will own the global serving platform that provides reliable, policy-based access control checks across every region worldwide, supporting key services such as Google Compute Engine, Google Cloud Storage, Google Kubernetes Engine, and BigQuery. The team’s charter includes building high-capacity storage systems, group membership services, agentic authorization, and policy evaluation engines that process hundreds of millions of queries per second with minimal latency and high availability.

You will lead, grow, and strengthen high-performing engineering teams while demonstrating technical thought leadership, particularly in scaling platforms for an agentic access landscape. Partnering closely with Site Reliability Engineering and technical leaders across Google Cloud, you will navigate ambiguity to solve complex architectural challenges, balancing customer obsession, business priorities, and product excellence to deliver intuitive, highly secure infrastructure.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $207000 - $300000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Manage, coach, and support the career advancement of a high-performing engineering team while fostering a collaborative culture.
  • Define and execute a multi-year technical roadmap for Google Cloud Platform (GCP) authorization infrastructure in alignment with broader Google Cloud reliability and security goals.
  • Drive complex projects through the entire software lifecycle, balancing delivery goals with operational health and high quality.
  • Provide technical direction and system design oversight for distributed, fault-tolerant infrastructure built for 99.999% availability. Maintain accountability for service service level objectives (SLOs), production resilience, security hygiene, and proactive capacity planning.
  • Build strong partnerships across GCP teams to integrate platform capabilities and drive cross-organizational technical alignment.
