Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience programming in C++.
- 7 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
- 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
- 5 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 5 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.

As a Senior Engineering Manager for Fleet Data Services (FDS), you will lead the organization responsible for Google Cloud’s canonical source of truth for capacity actuals, machine topology, and dynamic capacity distribution. You will oversee three specialized engineering tracks: FDS Foundation, Host Topology and Capacity, and Shape Capability and Fungibility, driving systems that power Google Compute Engine (GCE) core compute and high-priority AI/ML infrastructure.Google Cloud accelerates every organization’s ability to digitally transform its business and industry. Responsibilities
- Define the multi-year strategy and OKRs for GCE capacity data and holdback infrastructure. Lead the transition from fragmented, legacy pipelines to a unified, near-real-time data architecture that aligns with broader Google Cloud and accelerator priorities.
- Own the availability, scalability, and 24/7 SLOs of low-latency RPC interfaces, distributed Spanner databases, and large-scale data pipelines. Guide the architecture of distributed optimization solvers within the GCE Holdback Manager, ensuring real-time machine-drain approvals (SRSly) safeguard fleet capacity and prevent stockouts.
- Serve as the primary liaison between upstream infra teams (Arcus, Instance Manager, Prime, Prodicus) and downstream tier-0 consumers (Capacity Advisor, CWAC/GOOSE, Fleet Admiral, Stockroom).
- Recruit, mentor, and scale an engineering organization of software engineers and Tech Leads. Foster a high-velocity engineering culture centered on sound system design, proactive operational hygiene, postmortems, and structured career development.
